Kush-Hara Farm

About Us

Kush-Hara Farm is a 100-acre farm located in Virginia's central piedmont between Orange and Culpeper. We've owned the property since 1999, and Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats were among our first farm animals.

Nigerian's are unique in that they can breed year round. When we decided that we wanted to start milking our first does, we wondered if there would be a difference in the amount of milk (or our costs) if we milked them from October to April instead of the more traditional April to October. Unable to find an answer, in 2003 we applied for and received a Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) grant to find an answer.

Our grant ended in 2004 with a project report; our interest in breeding top quality milking goats and promoting the Nigerian as a viable dairy animal is never ending. Today we have more than 50 goats, many of which are for sale!
